Down Royal feature

attracts 10 entries

HAITI Couleurs is the sole British-trained entry for the Grade 1 BetVictor ‘Remembering Envoi Allen’ Champion Chase at Down Royal on Saturday, October 31st.

Winner of the Welsh National and a Grade 2 chase last season, the Rebecca Curtis-trained nine-year-old ran below expectations in both the Gold Cup and Grand National in the spring.

Gordon Elliott has made four entries for the race he has won five times in the past. They are headed by second season chaser Romeo Coolio who will have an easier option on the Down Royal card, as will Andy Slattery’s Fleur In The Park, who won at Gowran Park last Saturday.

Henry de Bromhead, trainer of three-time race winner Envoi Allen, has entered Ryanair Chase winner Heart Wood, while Noel Meade has engaged Affordale Fury, winner of the Savills Chase at Leopardstown last Christmas.

Former King George winner Banbridge could represent Joseph O’Brien.

Chelmsford set to

reopen next month

RACING is set to return to Chelmsford next month. There have been no fixtures at the all-weather track in Essex after the track’s previous tenant, Great Leighs Estates Limited, collapsed into administration with debts of more than £22 million.

This week the racecourse said it had agreed a “multi-year lease” with Arena Racing Company (ARC) and had pencilled in a fixture for November 2nd with five more planned before the end of the year. The return of racing is subject to the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) granting the company a licence.

ARC operations director Kieran Gallagher said: “We are grateful to the BHA for their ongoing support during the process currently under way of relicensing the racecourse and we look forward to getting everything prepared to welcome horses, owners, trainers and racegoers back in November, and starting a new era under the ARC banner.”

Chelmsford’s fixtures will be shown on Sky Sports Racing.
