BERTRAM Allen and Next Cornet (Omar Mir) won a tight two-star speed class at Sentower Park in Opglabbeek, Belgium, last weekend.
The Enniscorthy native and his eight-year-old grey gelding were electric over the 1.45m course, clearing the 14 jumping efforts in a time of 65.09 seconds, which was 0.32 faster than Pieter Clemens (BEL) with the 10-year-old mare Gambas de l’Ocean.
At the Longines League Of Nations in St Tropez-Gassin, Shane Breen took the second spot on the podium in Friday’s three-star Grand Prix Qualifier with Breen Equestrian’s Scarteen.
The 1.45m speed class involving 79 participants, was won by France’s Julien Epaillard with the nine-year-old Hacker d’Auge, who stopped the clock in 61.10.
Scarteen and his Cashel pilot were unable to match that target, but their clear round in 63.82 was five-hundredths of a second quicker than the time of Jos Verlooy (BEL) with Parise van den Dael.
